Molodi is about fun, music, community and the arts. Everywhere we go we want to share that with any and everyone we meet. This video for example was a workshop we taught in 2009 at Eastern New Mexico.

Another stop on Khalid’s world tour is in New Orleans

Khalid says
New Orleans during the Mardi Gras week was amazing. As soon as you walk out the front door of the hotel the city was jumpin with noise and excitement. I was in rare form to say the least. Dancing in the streets never felt more appropriate. I got pegged in the head a few times with flying beads but that just added to the fun.

Reblogged from Stepping Workshop:
Its been a while since I posted something on my blog, I’ve been a little busy and a little unmotivated to. I recently I had a talk with a friend and realized that my teaching career has been short and it will take real work to grow it to where I want it to be. There will be days where you have full classes and excited students wanting more and more.
I know you got soul.

I believe Mr’ CJ3 (Chris Rutledge) is a showman and anytime he is granted the opportunity to show out, he does not disappoint. This is another example of his ever growing body of work. Chris teaches, performs and entertains. Note: Performing and entertaining in principle are different. One just gets on stage and does what has been rehearsed and the other interactive with the crowd and give a piece of themselves.
If you’re in the California area, keep a look out for Chris because he is all over the place.
The beginnings and the future!

This was the original NAACP unity step performance that inspired me to start stepping! I recorded it on VHS tapes, watched it and learned every single step. Umm…stealing or borrowing? LOL. How about SHARING — It’s part of the stepping culture.
- Jason Nious, President of Molodi and creator of Rhythm Cartel
Molodi’s roots is based in Greek Collegiate Stepping. In Aug of 1999 Rhythm Cartel was a non greek step team at the which later evolved into Molodi. Over the last 14 years we have added to who we are and what we are. We’ve added body percussion, tap, hand drumming, theatrical elements, hip hop elements, professionalism, and a sense of purpose. Molodi has evolved into a live art collective, a theater company. In our travels our environment has molded us and inspires us to reach and strive for more. But this video reminds us on where we started and where we are going.

Mr. CJ3 and new-found friend Philly Phil Vicars have join forces to make a brain trust of funk, they have made The V-Rioty Show their personal playground over the last two months. This month was a great showing and a highlight of the show. If you’re in L.A. or in ear shot or CJ3 show your love and support for Molodi’s own Chris Rutledge.
Oh! Chris teaches in the Los Angeles area at two different dance studios, Wednesdays @ Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio 5:00pm-6:00pm andThe EDGE Performing Arts Center 8:30pm-9:30PM in L.A. I strongly recommend you check the class out. See a splash of his genius and check his teacher’s page on facebook.

This is Khalid’s teaching reel, it highlight Khalid’s travel and some past workshops. Khalid is a world traveller and adventurer, he love to explore and experience new cultures plus revisit some of his favorite international and local spots. But I think what Khalid love the most about the traveling experience is the cultural exchange he gets everything he lands in a new state, city, and country. He lives the motto “When in Rome”
illegal in 47 States

This is an old video, the sequence is called illegal in 47 states. It started out slow and picked steam as we got closer to the end. Funny thing about the sequence is that we didn’t keep that way. We break it up and Jason made a step which we later called 47. But it give a glimpse on how we continuously work and re-work material. So much fun,
Director note: The music is a bit dodgy. Its a good thing we break it up and took another direction. because it was not clean. But you must understand it was a rehearsal. lol(excuses)
